Ralf and Lexi

by Scott Lincoln on January 7, 2010 at 4:01 pm
Posted In: Sightings & Sketches

The weight of the WorldHere’s a sketch of Ralf and an up coming character named Lexi. She’s a character I originally developed for a previous strip called “Solomon Road” (syndicated through DBR Media). I modeled her off of a little girl my son played with at church. I just liked the character so much I brought her over to Ralf the Destroyer, since Solomon Road ended after about a two year run.

She’s a feisty little girl who is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. I drew this picture to compare the similarities in structure between Ralf and human children. If your browser has a Flash plug-in you can read more about her on the Character Page :D

Reddick Strikes Again!

by Scott Lincoln on December 30, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Posted In: Sightings & Sketches

Well I have to say my holiday was made just a little bit brighter when I received a note from David Reddick letting me know he posted a couple of sketches he did of Ralf the Destroyer on his “Legend of Bill” website.

Dave is a great cartoonist and you may recognize his other strips, “Rod & Barry” and “Gene’s Journal” as well. His drawings always look like he has a great time drawing them and this was no exception! Thanks Dave!

Tassili Sketch

by Scott Lincoln on December 5, 2009 at 1:06 pm
Posted In: Sightings & Sketches

TassiliThis is a sketch of a mysterious species called the Tassili. They are not caporial creatures and because of that they are often the substance of many myths, though many choose to ignore the possibility of their existence. But Ralf seems to hold a certain curiosity for one of them.

This is just one in a series of aliens I developed by looking at historical references from cave paintings to Biblical descriptions. This one happens to be my favorite from that study (Ralf is technically my favorate alien, but he was developed on his own). There was a cave painting in a desert region (which the name is based on) which some said looked like a man with a helmet on, but to me it looked like a giant eye. So I thought that would be a cool look for a “watcher” type alien and mixed it with some other references and this is what I came up with. Can anyone guess what the other reference (specifically) is?

Noropian Gort

by Scott Lincoln on December 2, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Posted In: Sightings & Sketches

Gort This is a sketch I did of a species called Noropian Gorts. I was trying to come up with something terrifying but not in the typical way. Most go for scary teeth, but I recalled watching a tv show about “The Night Stalker” and my wife commented on how creepy his hands were because they were so unusually large. This has always stuck with me so all my really creepy characters have giant hands. If you look carefully, you can see this creature also has a second set of hands for more technical work. To get an idea of scale, the ship Ralf is using to destroy Earth was originally a Noropian flagship. Ralf must climb three or four steps to get up to the control panels, the same control panels Gorts use the second set hands at their waist to operate.
