Wow, What the Hell happened? I was reading this strip on Tapas, and it stopped at June 14, 2024. Now, suddenly, I am reading a bunch more strips that didn’t show on Tapas, and they stop at July 27, 2017. What the F**k? And, I see that your copyright dates back to 2004.
The comic was originally supposed to be syndicated in newspapers in 2008, but after reaching an agreement with the syndicate the editor went back on his word, locked me out and flamed me online, effectively ruining my career. On my own I had built a site for it, but the site became infected by tons of viruses. I eventually rebuilt the site and continued the story, but always struggled to get traffic (though I did have some wonderfully supportive readers).
At that point the strip had been horizontal black and white. After a huge burn out period I figured I’d try one more big swing. I rebuilt thew site for mobile devices, colored almost 500 strips and formatted them for vertical scroll. I started reposting in color every weekday on multiple social media sites and paying for ads on certain platforms to see where I could get some more readers/subscribers. Which brings us here, new comics will start posting here (and the aforementioned platforms) July 17th.
I’m cutting Tapas and Webtoons as their terms of service keep changing and not in ways that favor the creators. I’m also culling the number of social media sites I post to as well. I’ll keep posting here (on my site) Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and I’m looking into Substack.
Thank you for your replys. I am often flummoxed by the comings and goings of web strips. I hope things get better for you soon. Hopefully, you’ll have the last laugh on that puke editor.
It is only my opinion and based on wording like “in perpetuity”. There is also an unsettling trend (which may or not be the case with this particular platform) of switching terms after the fact, ie. constantly updating the terms of service. I read through them the first time and maybe the second update, but it’s a lot of reading small print and who has the time to check every line every time they change?
If I had created my property for a specific platform with a steadfast binding contract and was being fairly compensated, then sure, it’s theirs. But I have signed no contract, Ralf is a labor of love and I am not getting paid a single red cent from any platform, so I’d like to avoid any future rights entanglement… should it or the platforms status change.
I’m super appreciative of the fans who followed and commented on those platforms and are the reason I stayed on as long as I did. But compared to other features, I just don’t compare numbers-wise. Granted I may just be paranoid about such things, but I’m just trying to manage my risk and time.
Can’t say as how I blame you for protecting your creation. Hope it works out for you. At the same time, I just tried to move to the next strip from this one, and I got a blank page with a message of Nothing Found, and a suggestion that I do a search. I clicked on the page forward arrow. Is there a problem with the sight?
Yes, there was! Some critical updates were required and caused the site to freeze just in time for the first update to post! It appears to be working now (as of 4:30 pm 7/18). Thank you for alerting me!

Ok, I STILL want to know why, I have gone from running out of strips on Tapas in 2024, to running out of strips back in 2017.

I discovered your comic via Webtoon. I am wondering : In what way are the terms of service becoming more and more unfavorable to creators?
